2023 Accessible Sharks Mentor Interest Form
Thanks for your interest in contributing to the mentorship side of the 2023 Accessible Sharks REU program! We are looking for mentors who are graduate students or professionals in STEM fields, who identify as having a disability, and who are willing to contribute 1-3 hours of time during the summer of 2023. There are several forms which this mentorship might take, all of which will happen virtually, via zoom:

1. Participation in a 1-hour panel discussion on either navigating graduate school or pursuing a STEM career as a disabled researcher. These panels will take place on zoom, and will reach both the students directly participating in the 2023 Accessible Sharks program, and will be open to any disabled undergraduate who expresses interest in attending (up to 300 students).

2. Serving as a 1:1 external mentor to one of the REU students. This would involve meeting 2-3 times throughout the summer and providing an external perspective on navigating research and academic environments.

3. Pitch your own idea! We are working behind the scenes to develop professional development opportunities for disabled undergrads interested in pursuing STEM careers. If you have an idea that you're excited about, or something you wish you'd had as an undergrad but didn't, and you want to make it happen for someone else, please reach out and we'll work with you to see if we can make it happen - if not this summer, then perhaps in 2024.

Please note that at this time, participation in mentorship activities for the 2023 Accessible Sharks program is on a volunteer basis. However, we are working on confirming compensation options. If your participation in mentorship activities is dependent on compensation, please let us know below! Depending on response volume and availability, we will reach out to you to schedule.

Please direct questions to accessiblesharksreu@gmail.com

Thank you for your willingness to support our next generation of researchers!
