This application must be completed entirely to be considered for membership in National Honor Society at Northwest Cabarrus High School. Applications must be submitted by 2:30pm on April 6, 2023. Late applications will not be accepted. Any materials that need to be submitted by hand/ or by email must be turned in directly to Mrs. Willis in by 2:30pm on April 6, 2023. Any materials left in the office or in Mrs. Willis' mailbox will not be accepted.

I understand that I must have a 4.2 weighted GPA to be considered for the National Honor Society *

If at any point my 4.2 weighted GPA drops below this requirement I will be put on probation for the following semester to bring the GPA up to the minimum requirement. If the GPA does not come up I will be removed from NHS. I will receive a letter at the time the academic probation begins as well as at the end of the following semester when probation is scheduled to end.

We will be checking discipline, it is in your best interests to be honest. Please only tell us about ISS or OSS. If you have never had any incidents please respond 'no'.

Required Essay: As part of your application, you are required to submit an essay with the following requirements to Mrs. Willis by 2:30pm on April 6, 2023: *

“Every organization has specific criteria for membership. Because it is an honor society, NHS invites people for membership who demonstrate outstanding character, scholarship, leadership, and service; all of these qualities are of equally important. You are to construct a well-developed multi-paragraph essay that elaborates on the specific ways in which you demonstrate these four important qualities. In addition, your essay must satisfy these requirements: a. Be handwritten in blue or black ink b. Be 400-500 words long [with a word count] c. Demonstrate the conventions of Standard English grammar. d. Include a concise thesis, a clear indication of main points to be considered, and specific elaborations to support these main points.

Letters of Recommendation *

Please check below that you understand you must provide two letters of recommendation. These two letters of recommendation must come from members of the community (NOT teachers). The letters must be delivered to Mrs. Willis in a sealed envelope with the recommending person's signature across the sealed flap of the envelope. The recommendation must include the recommending person's name, phone number, and relationship to the student. Failure to submit two letters, failure to follow all directions, submitting forged letters, or submitting letters after the application deadline for any reason will render your request for consideration invalid. Letters may not be faxed or emailed and may not be written by anyone related to you.

A membership fee of $20 must be submitted through online payment if your application is accepted. All money will be due by May 19, 2023. *

I understand that after completing this NHS application it does not mean I am automatically a member of NHS. The faculty council will review the applications and acceptance and denials letters will delivered by April 18, 2023. *

NHS members are required to complete 30 hours of community service hours per year. A maximum of 12 hours may be completed in the summer months and considered part of the total 30 hours. All hours must be completed and logged by May 1, 2024. *

I understand I am required to complete 30 hours of service a year or I will not longer be an NHS member.

NHS members are seen as leaders in the school and community. If you are suspended from NCHS for any reason or length of time you will be removed from NHS membership. *

I understand that if I am suspended for any amount of time or any reason I will not longer be an NHS member.
