Advice for journalism students
I'm working on an article for The Nutgraf, a weekly newsletter about student journalism, on advice journalism educators have for their students amid the current state of the media industry with layoffs dominating news cycles. How competitive is it in this landscape? Is it a good idea to still pursue a career in journalism? What do students have to do to stand out in the industry? What skills should they pursue? How should students cope with news about layoffs, thinking about their future?

If you haven't subscribed to the newsletter, I'd appreciate if you do so and share it with your students. The Nutgraf features original reporting each week, with sections dedicated to showcasing stories by student journalists and highlighting industry opportunities such as internships, workshops and conferences. The Nutgraf also tries to be intentional about featuring works from lesser-known student newspapers. http://bit.ly/thenutgraf
