MSFC Membership Application Form
We’re delighted that you’re interested in joining us!  Please read the information below to learn a little more about us before completing the application details at the bottom of the form.
Purposes of Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club
Our purposes are to:

(1) Promote the appreciation and enjoyment of traditional and contemporary fiddle music from Scotland and the Scottish diaspora;
(2) Provide a welcoming, enjoyable and inclusive environment where people of all ages are encouraged to learn and to share knowledge about Scottish/Scottish diaspora fiddle music;
(3) Provide members with opportunities to learn skills which add to their playing enjoyment and give them a new perspective on making music.
(4) Provide performance opportunities, thereby promoting Scottish fiddle music within the wider community as well as within the club membership.
Many Ways for Members to Get Involved
While playing and enjoying Scottish fiddle music is our primary purpose, we encourage you to participate in MSFC in other ways too.

There are lots of ways you can help: publicity, newsletter production, website and social media update, organisingraffles, book-keeping, helping with afternoon tea, selling tickets at concerts, helping set up at gigs, to name but a few!  Talk to any committee member, tell us how you'd like to be involved!
Membership Criteria
We welcome and encourage people of ALL ages to participate in our monthly meetings and other activities - we have regular attendees aged from 7 to 77.  You do not have to be a member to come along; however there are many benefits - financial and non-financial - to becoming a member. To be a member you must be 12 years or older.

The membership year runs from 1 March to 28 February, and renewals are due each year in February.

All membership applications are considered by the committee before being approved.  Applications from core instrument players are generally approved immediately. Applications for membership by non-core instrument players will normally only be  approved if the player is applying as part of a family membership which includes a fiddle player.
Core and non-core instruments
While the core instrument in our club is, of course, the fiddle, we welcome players of other instruments traditionally connected with the Scottish fiddle in performance – cello, viola, harp – and consider these also to be core instruments. All other instruments are considered non-core.

Some non-core instruments may not be considered appropriate for regular practice or performance with MSFC.
Rhythm section
Our rhythm section consists of both core and non-core instruments. It is much loved and is vital to the unique sound of Melbourne Scottish Fiddlers.

We ask rhythm players to note, that, while we are as inclusive as possible, there will be times that we have to limit the number of rhythm players playing at any one practice or performance, and you may be asked not to play. This may be because we may only have capacity on stage for a limited number of rhythm instruments to accompany the fiddle players; or, it may be to achieve the right musical balance.
