Social media is everywhere and is increasingly intertwined into our daily lives. While there are benefits to social media, there are also risks that children, teenagers, and adults should avoid. This session will cover some of the various apps/platforms that are used among children and teens, and what we as parents and educators can do to keep them safe while they explore the digital world. We’ll also dive into the importance of being aware of our digital footprint and the risks associated with sharing information online.
Eugene is a product of the Newport school system and holds a B.A. in education. This is his 16th year as a teacher in the Newport School District and he is currently teaching computer science at Newport Middle School.
My name is Nikki, and I am the lead teacher at Newport Montessori School in the preschool and kindergarten classroom. I have my Montessori Training Diploma in Early Childhood and I have worked at NMS with this age group for 9 years. During that time, it has become my passion to watch students as they adapt, integrate, cultivate, grasp, and flourish in this unique classroom setting. A child’s trajectory for the school day begins when they walk through the door. A positive start can mean everything in terms of their education and emotional well-being. Our class utilizes music throughout the day to support and “center” the group as a whole as well as individual students. Please join me during my seminar as we discuss the importance and integration of “harmonious beginnings.”
