The purpose of the Council of Elder's book club is to accomplish the following aims:

-Foster a community and bring together rising 10-12th African-American high school students of Howard County

-Strengthen college preparation in gaining a greater sense of understanding of black history, culture, current events, and writers

-Curate with intention works of black writers

-Broaden and deepen reading comprehension, vocabulary, and intrapersonal communication in a welcoming environment and through the discussion of literary works

-Works of: Kobe Bryant, Martin Luther King Jr. and more
