Every Spring, the Graduate Student Organization of the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences awards 2 Graduate Student Teaching Assistants or Instructors from each University division (Humanities, Social Sciences, & Natural Sciences) for excellence in graduate student teaching. Faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates are all eligible to submit nominations. Nominated students are then invited by the Teaching Award Committee to apply for the award. The award, which is given in April, is named after Elizabeth Baranger, former Dean and later Vice-Provost of the School of Arts & Sciences.
The purpose of the teaching award is to:
- Recognize and reward outstanding teaching by graduate students at Pitt
- Make teaching by graduate students more visible and valued on campus
- Raise the standards of the teaching by graduate students
- Contribute to or spark discussions about what constitutes good teaching by graduate students on campus
- Help graduate students prepare professionally for teaching careers
Deadline for nominations is March 3, 2021. If you have any questions or problems using this form, please email
