Pages and Stages: The Holocaust in Literature and Film is a seminar-style course for adult community members (18+) from the Bay Area and beyond. Those who are eager to learn about the Holocaust through popular books and films, as well as a desire to engage in community dialogue, are encouraged to apply. No prior knowledge of the Holocaust is required; participants will develop a deeper understanding of the history and the ways in which it is transmitted and viewed through these mediums.
Through popular titles that include "The Pianist," "Schindler's List," and "Jojo Rabbit," we will look beyond lens of the camera: How does a director and/or a film change or effect the way people view the Holocaust? Similarly, an author has the ability to create a world with words, but one that is left entirely to the imagination. We will go beyond the page and examine such literary titles as "Night," "Rywka's Diary," and "The Book Thief," all the while discussing the larger picture - is Holocaust entertainment helpful or harmful?
Pages and Stages will be taught by JFCS Holocaust Center Director of Education, Leslie White.
WHEN
Pages and Stages will meet virtually every Thursday, March 4-25, for four (4) weeks from 11:00am - 12:15pm PST.
