Under Lock and Monkey
You wake with a start. Your parents’ living room is trashed. Space junk floats through the broken window, and all around you, the safety lights are flashing rapidly and the security breach alarms ring. The house assistant’s robot voice booms over the noise, telling you there is 45 minutes of oxygen left in the main level of the house. Good thing you have your space suit on!

“Ouch!” You wince as you sit up. You get up slowly and walk over to the control panel located in the kitchen to reset the alarms. Everything stops. There’s nothing you can do about the broken window, though. That is something your dad will have to call in his engineering team to repair.

“Mom? Dad?” you call into the radio built into your suit. No answer. You remember they had gone out for errands. The clock on the kitchen wall tells you it's eleven in the morning… your parents won’t be home for a few more hours.

“Apollo?” you say into your radio. Maybe Apollo, your family’s monkey butler, will know what’s going on. Your parents usually leave him in charge when they go out because the legal age in your space colony is 30, and you’re only 14. “Hey, Apollo!”

No answer. You start to worry and search the house looking for Apollo. You go up to the broken window and see his paw print on the glass. A scrap of metal floats through the hole in the glass and snags on to the shoulder of your space suit. You pull it off and look at the stencil markings on the shard. You recognize the symbol as the marking of a space pirate gang.
