Guidelines for Submission of an Application
 
Gail Guntermann, Professor Emerita of Spanish, Arizona State University, merits our highest esteem as founder of and first contributor to this prestigious fellowship.  We are proud to count Dr. Guntermann as a Lifetime Member of AZLA, having received the Service Award in 1997, and thank her for her continuous contribution of time and knowledge to the preparation and improvement of teachers of world languages.  One fellowship of up to $500 may be awarded per calendar year.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
           Be a current AZLA member in good-standing;
           Teach world language(s) full-time in a K-12 setting;
            Document a minimum of three years teaching experience;
            Write a report for AZLA’s newsletter about the professional development; and  
            Prepare and present a session at an AZLA conference or workshop about the experience.

Step 1: Complete the Application form.
            Qualifying Professional Development Activities include:
            College course work (which is not required for teaching certification)
            Training institute or workshop
            Coursework or activity related to National Board Certification
            Train-the-Trainer
            Exchange Program
            Developing classroom related projects

Step 2: Complete this google form, including  a detailed description of the proposed activity,  no later than January 6th.

Step 3: The AZLA Executive Board will vote to approve or decline the application.

Step 4: The applicant will be notified as to the Board’s decision, as soon as possible, after the application deadline. Should it be approved, the fellow is to proceed with applicable travel arrangements, registration, etc. A congratulatory email will be sent right away and all appropriate receipts  up to $500 will be reimbursed upon submission.  (Should the fellowship not be completed by the end of the calendar year, the $500 is to be returned to AZLA by that time.)  

Step 5: Upon return/completion of the professional development activity, the fellow is to:
Write an activity report and send it to the AZLA Newsletter editor by a given due date.
Prepare and present a session at the next AZLA conference/workshop.
