Friends of Mosholu Parkland (FOMP) is a registered non-profit incorporation since 2013 with its own EIN. It established a 501(c)3 2023. FOMP is based in the Northwest part of the Bronx and serves immigrants and communities of color,  collaborating with other agencies, businesses, schools and residents. FOMP currently has 4 part time paid staff, overseas Mosholu Parkway, 7 playgrounds and its surrounding areas. 

****FOMP work in the community is an environmental advocacy necessity.  The mission stems from NYC PARKS limited budget that restraints operational growth and management that diminishes the care on Mosholu parkland and at times adds environmental issues that are visible to residents and park users. *****

The core members of FOMP is looking to develop two boards  who are leaders dedicated to the organization’s mission and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance and financial support. 

For our fundraising board, we are looking to acquire 9 to 15 for the fundraising board with 4 of them being large corporations in the area, for our new fiscal year starting October 1st and ending September 30th.  Board members should be aligned with FOMP in valuing the principles of solidarity and decision-making by those most affected by decisions.
Our fundraising board will  focus on raising funds to ensure the organization is financially stable, pay workers to be able to fulfill its missions. This is a governing board, votes. Annual dues help facilitates the components that keep FOMP mission going, especially getting people paid, salaries. 

Our advisory board, is a no fee board. It will be a group of experts who lend their skills, guidance, and knowledge to an organization. We are looking to gain 3 members for the advisory board.

EXPECTATIONS OF INDIVIDUAL and CORPORATE BOARD MEMBERS (Source:BoardSource)

Individual Fundraising Board Member expectations: (advisory board members are no -fee) 

• know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
• serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for FOMP to advance its mission
• leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve FOMP mission
• individual fundraising board members give an meaningful personal or fundraised financial donation of an annual $5,000 (can be paid monthly or 1x) 
* annual fees for fundraising boards are tax-deductible
• help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s
fundraising, health, and reputation

• prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings via
zoom

Corporate Board Member expectations:

• board members can be represented by their work organization (adjusted gross income rate of $250,000 +) with a meaningful annual donation or fundraised fee of $25,000 enhancing CSR (corporate social responsibility)

• sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings

Mission: Friends of Mosholu Parkland engages the neighborhoods of Bedford Park and Norwood in cultivating a healthy, vibrant, and environmentally sustainable Mosholu Parkland with daily parkland greening and cleaning care.

As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its
fiduciary duties, the board is responsible for

• determining the mission and purposes of the organization as FOMP continues to evolve
• selecting and evaluating the performance of the executive director
• strategic and organizational planning
• ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
• fundraising, resource development and using a board portal as a working platform
• approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services
• enhancing the organization’s public image
• assessing its own performance as the governing body of Friends of Mosholu Parkland
Qualifications

FOMP is looking to recruit Board Members who have experience in at least
one or more of the following areas:
- Good nonprofit and/or cooperative governance
- Building financially sound organizations
- Guiding organizational transitions
- Business development for revenue
- Business, or Nonprofit Law
- Human resource management
- Environmental justice and green business
- Community organizing
- Fundraising
- Environmental studies, higher education

FOMP Board Members will serve a two-year term to be eligible for reappointment
for one additional term.
All prospective Board members should have the time and energy to do
strategic planning and visioning to grow the organization. FOMP is looking
to recruit 8 to15 new Board Members. Currently FOMP has 2 "on-boarding"
members needed for the tax exempt filing. Board Members are expected to
meet once a month via zoom, phone or in person. Depending on the
current scope of the board's work, participation may be as many as 20
hours per month.
Board of Directors for Friends of Mosholu Parkland do not receive any
compensation for their support or time, except in cases of reimbursement
for organization-related expenses.
