ASKAP TOO Observation Request Form
This form is intended to capture requests for time-critical observations triggered by circumstances that demand a prompt response. This specifically refers to observations including:
  • Science-motivated requests, of a modest scale with a Target-of-Opportunity nature
  • Observations to commission, test or demonstrate new ASKAP capabilities or modes
If your request is not specifically time-critical, then it should be submitted as a Guest Science Project proposal via the ATNF process:

Requests for time should be submitted via this form and should generally be for no more than 100 hours.

Requests will be assessed on merit by the ASKAP Summit committee in consultation with the relevant Survey Science Team PIs, with an expected response time of within 2 weeks. Highly time-critical requests will be assessed immediately by the Project Scientist and Head of ASKAP Science Operations with further consultation deferred to the next possible time.

This justification should cover either the science-motivated or commissioning-motivated nature of the request, and be commensurate in level of detail with the amount of time being requested. 

Observations should also fit into the scope as outlined by the non-SSP survey request guidelines:

In the case of commissioning/test/demonstration observations, please also briefly address:
  • Science, commissioning or strategic value of the proposed new capability or mode
  • Significance of the specific proposed tests for commissioning or demonstration
  • Any impact on other ASKAP activities or resources
  • Any potential conflict with the science goals of any existing ASKAP program
  • Any intention to publish scientific results using the proposed observations
