Buckeye Education Foundation Grant Review Team
Thank you for your interest in joining the Buckeye Education Foundation's Grant Review Team! Members of this team have an important job: deciding how to distribute money to improve our schools! Through the Foundation's direct-to-teacher/staff grant program, BUSD Teachers and Staff can apply to receive up to $1,000 to fund special projects that enhance the learning experience for BUSD students. Reviewers are an essential part of making sure that grant funds are spent responsibly, equitably, and according to the goals of the grant program. We are excited to see what projects the Foundation can fund!

As part of the Grant Review Team, you will have the opportunity to review applications and score them according to a rubric, and then be a voice at the table for final grant allocation.  All members of the Grant Review team including the Buckeye Education Foundation board members are serving as volunteers. The Buckeye Education Foundation is an all-volunteer, independent non-profit organization.

In Phase 1 of review, you will be working by yourself with applications that have had the applicant and school information removed, and you will be able to work on your own time. Each application will be scored by 2-3 reviewers in this way. The number of applications you will get to review depends on how many applications we receive, how many reviewers we have, and how much time each reviewer can give. We expect that each application will take about 10-30 minutes to review and score, and each reviewer should be able to commit to about 2-3 hours of time on your own. The time frame for this phase will likely be February 5-16.

In Phase 2 (optional participation),  the review team is invited to join Buckeye Foundation board members to meet together to make final grant decisions. You are invited but not required to be part of Phase 2; but Phase 2 participants must be either board members or part of Phase 1. While we will be doing serious work at this meeting and may have some tough decisions to make, it will also be exciting and celebratory to allocate funds to many worthy projects. Meeting Date: Thursday, February 29 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the BUSD District Office in El Dorado Hills

Student Reviewers: We are inviting up to two 8th grade representatives from each BUSD Middle School campus to join the review team. Students will have the same responsibilities and expectations that the rest of the adult team members have.

To join the BEF Grant Review Team, you must:
  • Live in the boundaries of the BUSD district, have a student attending a BUSD school, be in 8th grade at a BUSD school, OR be a BUSD teacher/staff member;
  • and NOT be a grant applicant;
  • and be available to give 1-3 hours of your own time to review applications during the needed time frame;
  • and be able to perform your assigned reviewer tasks with a spirit of impartiality, confidentiality, collaboration, and equitability;
  • and excuse yourself from reviewing any applications with which you may have a real or perceived conflict of interest.
If you meet the criteria to join the Grant Review team and wish to proceed, please complete this application form.
