Congressional Shadow Day 2020 Application
Greetings, current foster youth and alumni of foster care! We invite you to apply to be a Foster Youth Shadow Day Delegate for the 2020 Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Day Program in Washington, D.C.
The Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Program is an opportunity for young people with personal experience in the foster care system to spend time with a Congressional representative in Washington, D.C. *UPDATE: Shadow Day will be June 6 - 12, 2020.*
If selected, you will be representing thousands of current foster youth and alumni of foster care across the nation. Participating in the Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Program allows current foster youth or alumni of foster care and policymakers to meet and learn from one another. Before Shadow Day, all participants will attend online trainings to prepare for their meetings with policymakers. The trainings will include an overview of federal foster care policy, community organizing and guidance on how to speak to and learn from members of Congress about Congress while gaining “hands-on” understanding about how the U.S. government operates. Members of Congress have the opportunity to hear and learn from the perspectives of individuals who have lived experience in the foster care system to help them as they pursue policies that impact all foster youth.
