Young Playwrights, Poets & Storytellers Project
Complete this form to indicate your interest in Stage Left Community Arts Center's Grade 7-12 initiative to transform, inspire and create community through the Arts.

The Stage Left Community Arts Center will host a series, “Young Playwrights, Poets & Storytellers” beginning Sunday, October 23rd from 2:30-4 pm at the Trinity Playhouse, 234 E Lincoln Way in downtown Lisbon.

The project has been created for students grades 7-12 who are interested in finding their inner playwright, poet and/or storyteller. Participants will meet in-person or via ZOOM bi-monthly as determined by schedules of the participants and leader.

Stage Left's Executive Director, Kandy Cleland who is a playwright, poet and storyteller, is excited to share her love of these art forms with young people in our community. She explains, “This is an exciting opportunity for young people who want to explore creative writing and oral interpretation outside of the classroom setting. The Trinity Playhouse offers a safe space for sharing ideas and discovering how words can go from page to stage with power and meaning.”

(NOTE: 7th and 8th graders in the cast of Eureka- you can still sign up. Kandy will meet with you for 10 minutes after the October 23rd rehearsal from 4:30-4:40 pm to recap the first meeting and give you materials.)

Young Poets will explore poetry through Poetry Out Loud which encourages young people “to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary heritage and contemporary life.” (Ohio Arts Council, 2022.)

Are you interested in developing your Poetry Out Loud skills? Finding poems that speak to you, and then speaking them out loud.

*

Young Storytellers will develop storytelling skills through SPARK, a program that nurtures and teaches young tellers in the art of personal narrative. SPARK stands for Storytelling to Promote Acceptance, Respect and Kindness.
