VEMU Quiz: Know your Neighbours – Languages in the Baltic Sea Region

THE QUIZ IS NOW CLOSED - YOU CAN STILL ANSWER BUT YOU WILL NOT TAKE PART IN THE COMPETITION!

To celebrate the Worldwide Estonian Language Week (September 21-27, 2020) and the European Language Day on September 26 we are organizing a quiz on Estonian language and the languages of Estonia's neighbouring countries.

With this quiz we want to cherish the links between different languages around the Baltic Sea. The Baltic Sea is surrounded by nine countries and lots of different languages, big and small, are spoken in the area. They belong to the Indo-European language family (Germanic, Balto-Slavic languages) or to the Uralic language family (Finnic languages). In the course of tens of thousands of years the contacts between people have influenced language development.

Test your knowledge on the history and present usage of these languages. The quiz will be open to the public from September 26 to October 4. Best answers will be awarded!

Note that some questions have various right answers! You'll get the point when you select all of the correct answers.
