North American Indigenous Games 2023
Mission Staff Application

The North American Indigenous Games will be held in Halifax Nova Scotia in July 2023. This international, multi-sport event celebrates youth, volunteerism and Indigenous culture.

The Indigenous Sport Council Alberta (ISCA) is recognized as the Indigenous sport governing body and has overall responsibility for management of the Team Alberta Selection process for the Games.

The Indigenous Sport Council Alberta (ISCA) is now accepting applications and references for MISSION STAFF positions. The appointments will be in effect from the time of selection until the conclusion of the 2023 North American Indigenous Games.

Mission Staff Responsibilities -
1. If required - assist with team selection tryout camps and training in designated South, Central and North locations in Alberta.
2. Assist with team travel preparations and travel with the team to Halifax.
3. Communication with Coaches, Managers, Assistant Chef de Mission, and Chef de Mission.  
4. Assist team managers with team apparel sizing and distribution.  Ensure teams are complying with the NAIG and ISCA apparel requirements.  
5. Assist team managers and coaches with the collection and submission of all forms and fees.
6. Abide by all Indigenous Sport Council (Alberta) policies, rules and regulations pertaining to the 2023 North American Indigenous Games.
7. Attend all Mission Staff meetings (on site and/or virtual)
8. Complete an evaluation report at the conclusion of the 2023 North American Indigenous Games.  This valuable feedback will help ISCA make improvements for the next NAIG.  Report to be submitted by August 15, 2013. 
9. Additional responsibilities which will be communicated closer to the Games.  

NOTE- Applicants must be residents of Alberta. Applicants must also be able to comply with the ISCA’s Covid-19 Employment Policy, which requires staff & volunteers to be double vaccinated.

This Code of Conduct identifies the standard of behavior that is expected of all Mission Staff who actively participate in programs coordinated by and/or sanctioned by the Indigenous Sport Council of Alberta (ISCA).

General responsibilities of those who sign this code of conduct are:

Athletes, Coaches, Managers, Officials, Chaperones and Mission Staff are expected to conduct themselves at all times with integrity, fairness and respect. The Indigenous Sport Council of Alberta (ISCA) is committed to providing a safe and positive sport environment in which all individuals are treated with respect. Athletes, Coaches, Managers, Officials, Chaperones and Mission Staff must refrain from comments and/or behaviors that are disrespectful, offensive, abusive, racist, or sexist.

Behaviors that constitute harassment or abuse will not be tolerated by the ISCA. Any participant (adult or youth) found under the influence of alcohol or drugs immediately before, during, or immediately after a North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) event/program, or during travel to and/or from any scheduled NAIG event/pro disqualified immediately. Any participant (adult or youth) shall not engage in any activity or behavior which interferes with a competition or with any athlete's preparation for a competition, or which endangers the safety of others.

All Athletes, Coaches, Managers, Officials, Chaperones and Mission Staff shall refrain from using tobacco products smoking near the field of play - or the athlete village where applicable. When participating at NAIG all Athletes, Coaches, Managers, Officials, Chaperones and Mission Staff must reside in the area designated by the Host Society and strictly adheres to the curfew as defined by the Host Society. The ISCA and/or the athletes Coaches may set an earlier curfew, as they deem appropriate.

When participating at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) all athletes, coaches, managers, and chaperones must adhere to the restrictions as identified by the accreditation privileges provided to them by the Host Society. When participating at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) all Team Alberta Athletes, Coaches, Managers, Officials, Chaperones and Mission Staff must attend the Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies, medal ceremonies, and official functions in their full Team Alberta walkout uniform.

Drugs, Doping Penalties and Fair Play:
The Indigenous Sport Council of Alberta (ISCA) strongly embrace the concept of Fair Play in Sport, and unequivocally oppose cheating in whatever form, which includes the use of substances and methods banned by the National Sport Organizations and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport.

The ISCA recognizes the Canadian Policy on Penalties for Doping in Sport (endorsed by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, adopted by Fitness and Amateur Sport and the National Sport Organizations) and will honor suspensions of athletes or others determined to have committed doping or doping related infractions. Therefore, any person under suspension for a doping or doping related infraction shall be ineligible to participate in any ISCA coordinated and/or sanctioned event/program until the suspension has been lifted by the National Sport Organization and acknowledged by the CCES.

Discipline:
The ISCA Executive Director or, in the case of the NAIG, the Chef de Mission in consultation with the coaches, managers, and chaperones shall be responsible for implementing the discipline procedures.
Possible penalties, depending on the severity of the offense, may include one of or a combination of the following sanctions:
• Earlier curfew
• Verbal or written reprimand
• Verbal or written apology

Suspension from certain Team Alberta activities - or ISCA event/programs - that may include suspension from the next scheduled competition. Revoking Team Alberta clothing Removal of certain Team Alberta or Athlete Village privileges Removal from a portion of, or the remainder (expulsion), of the Games/event/program. If sent home from the Games the related expenses will be the responsibility of the
athlete and/or his/her parents.
• Withdrawal of return travel privileges.
Other sanctions as may be considered appropriate for the offense.
• Criminal charges.
DECLARATION - If I am selected, as Mission Staff for Team Alberta for the 2023 NAIG Games and as a participant to an ISCA sanctioned event, agree to abide by this Code of Conduct while traveling to, participating at, and returning from any tryouts, and any event/program coordinated and/or sanctioned by the Indigenous Sport Council of Alberta (ISCA). I understand that if I do not abide by this code of Conduct, disciplinary sanction may be imposed against me and/or my dependent child (if applicable). OATH OF CONFIDENTIALITY
All Mission Staff must complete the attached Oath of Confidentiality.
Respect for confidentiality is the cornerstone of trust and confidence. Confidentiality of information extends to all Coaches/ Managers/ Chaperones and Mission Staff in attendance at meetings related to NAIG.
Confidentiality means no Coaches/ Managers/ Chaperones or Mission Staff may relate such matters to anyone including immediate family members.
Coaches/ Managers/ Chaperones and Mission Staff shall agree to an Oath of Confidentiality upon being selected as a member of Team Alberta.

If I am selected as a Mission Staff, I declare that in carrying out my duties I will: Fulfill my responsibilities in good faith and in the best interests of the organization. Exercise these responsibilities at all times, with due diligence, care and skill in a reasonable and prudent manner. Keep confidential all information that I learn about matters related to NAIG. Immediately declare any real or apparent personal conflict of interest that may come to my attention. Immediately resign my position as Mission Staff if concluded that I have breached my "Oath of Office".
