This week's Gospel shows us a typical day in Jesus' life.  He is in a synagogue, surrounded by people and He is teaching them.  They are amazed by what He is teaching them.  Then, we see Jesus' first public healing.  A man said to have "an unclean spirit" rebukes Jesus, and in turn, Jesus tells the unclean spirit to leave the man.  This is the first of many healings we will see during Jesus' public ministry.
Why do you think the people are amazed at what Jesus is saying to them? *
What do you think it means to have an "unclean spirit"?  (It was said back in those times that anyone that had any type of mental illness was said to have an unclean spirit and the spirit was caused by sin.  This was before any scientific studies were known.  Nowadays, someone with an unclean spirit is something that suffers from a mental condition.  Imagine how amazing it would be to have Jesus come and cure you of any mental condition you were suffering.) *
How would you feel if you were one of Jesus' disciples back then?  What would it have been like for you to be able to listen to Him teach and to witness His healing power? *
