On June 28th, 2023, Arts for a Better Bay Area (ABBA) and several partnering organizations held a part-day summit, State of the Arts, bringing approximately 260 attendees. The theme for this year was 'Rebuilding Our Communities.' Thanks for your attendance and participation!
ABBA last held this event in 2018, which brought approximately 250 arts and culture workers, leaders, and City and local leaders. We learned at that event that the arts and culture community could benefit significantly from an annual convening connecting the broader community - arts organizations, artists, cultural centers, and districts that include all arts practices and various-sized organizations. While the arts and culture sector is vast, it tends to stay connected within its various communities.
As arts and culture are essential for a healthy society and bring tremendous benefits to lives, neighborhoods, and cities - unfortunately, arts/culture tend to be undercapitalized and prioritized. We are a strong force when we collaborate. What would happen if we regularly worked collaboratively and advocated in unison?
State of the Arts takes a step forward at bringing together the community to engage, learn, connect, conspire, and inspire in one place. We hope to do this annually and would appreciate your input to help us consider planning for the next event.
