How to Use NUSearch to Find eBooks and Request Paper Copy Books
In this quiz, you will learn how to use NUSearch, the Libraries' search tool, in order to do the following:

1. Find ebooks (online books) available from NU Libraries.

2. Find and request physical-copy books for pick up from the Libraries, if you are living locally, on, or near the  Evanston campus.

3. Use the search filters in NUsearch to narrow a search to more specific search results.

Let's start by looking for a specific book. Starting at the Library homepage https://www.library.northwestern.edu/, search NUSearch for the following book, by searching on the first part of its title.

Select search by Title as shown.:

Subject headings, Table of Contents notes, and other details in a book record provide insight into what the book is about.  

Subject headings also provide pathways to finding additional related books and other sources, sort of like tags or #hashtags.  

Click on the Subject heading below for "Study skills"    
Click on the Study skills subject to find more books with this subject.
Use additional images and information to answer Question 2 below
You can look to the left of your search results, under "Refine my results" to filter down your results in many ways, such as Availability, Format, Creation Date, Subject and more.

Perform the following steps to filter your search as shown below.  
With each step, your number of search results should decrease.
Step 1. Apply the Full Text Online filter, then run the search.
Step 2. Limit your format to Books, then run the search again.
Step 3. Limit the Creation Date to 2019 to 2020, then run your search one more time.
Step 4. Your active filters should appear as below.  By now, your results will include ebooks from the last two years that are about the subject/topic of "study skills."

Start a new search on another book title as shown below.

Search the book titled: How to be a Successful Student.

This book is not online, but is available in the Main Library on the Evanston campus.

You can request it for off-campus delivery and it will be shipped to you.
Step 1.  Search on the book title How to be a Successful Student
Step 2.  You can request this book for off-campus delivery to your residence. In order to do this, first sign in with your netid and password to NUsearch and your library account in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Click on the book's title.
Step. 4.  Next, click on Request.  Select "Home Delivery" from the "Pickup Location" drop-down menu.  This is where you would supply the address in the "Notes" field if you wanted to request this item. Requests with incomplete addresses will be held. You will receive a confirmation email.  (Do not submit this request, since this is just for practice!)
