is proud to present the Science Film Festival, 2020, with the aim of demonstrating that science can be fun and appealing when taught through multimedia. The Festival will present easily accessible scientific issues in a manner that is entertaining to a broad audience. Since its inception in 2005, the film festival has grown considerably and has become one of the largest events of its kind in terms of its global reach. In 2020, the event takes place internationally in over 30 countries in Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Africa and in Chennai  from 7th October to 20th December 2020.  

THEME 2020: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The theme for the Science Film Festival, 2020 is Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Outlined as a collection of 17 global goals that have been adopted by 193 countries and intended to be realised by the year 2030, this vision is our shared blueprint for a sustainable future. In cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Science Film Festival aims to explore these possibilities through an international selection of films on science, technology and environment for the betterment of people and the planet.
 
In the SCIENCE FILM FESTIVAL 2020, the films are categorized for the following age groups :
 
•         2 Films for Early Learners (5-8 yrs)
•         7 Films for Primary Section (9-11 yrs)
•         6 Films for Secondary Section (12-16 yrs)
•         9 Films for University and General Public (17+ yrs)
 
In light of ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, the selection of the Science Film Festival 2020 is available online. The online links for the films will be sent via seperate email to all the registered schools after the Science Film Festival virtual Inauguration in Chennai.

There are educational activities focusing on the theme of Sustainable Development Goals. Teachers/Parents can use these self-explanatory sheets in order to conduct these educational activities with their Students/Children. VIRTUAL INAUGURATION  | SCIENCE FILM FESTIVAL 2020 |                                     7. October 2020, 4.30 pm                        
Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Chennai, cordially invite you all for the virtual inauguration of the Science Film Festival, 2020, on 7.10.2020 at 4.30 pm. The event will be showcased via Zoom and the link will be shared to all the registered School Principals & Teachers. A digital certificate will be sent to all the participants.

Keynote Address: Dr. Stuart Kohlhagen, who dedicated his career to science and learning and supporting the professional development of educators around the world  will deliver the virtual KEY NOTE ADDRESS at the inaugural event.

Dr. Kohlhagen has worked with Questacon since 1979.  He was the President of Australian Science and Technology Exhibitors Network (ASTEN) from 2012- 2016 and is a member of the  education committee of the Australian Academy of Sciences.

Further, all the participating Schools Principals & Teachers for the Inauguration are entitled to nominate their students to take part in the thematically curated "SCIENCE & SUSTAINABILITY - A DIGITAL WORKSHOP". The first 1000 students from 25 Schools (elementary, primary and secondary levels) will get FREE slots to participate in this workshop conducted by trained mentors. All the participating students will also get a digital certificate.

Registration is a must and is only for School Principals & Teachers. The zoom link will be sent to all registered School Principals & Teachers.  

All School Principals & Teachers are requested to REGISTER here to participate in the SCIENCE FILM FESTIVAL - VIRTUAL INAUGURATION on 7.10.2020 by filling the online registration form latest by 4.10.2020.
