Avoiding Back Injury
Workers can avoid back injury in the workplace by using mechanical equipment as often as available. Making use of forklifts, skid steer, pallet jacks or dollies reduces the likelihood of physical injury. In instances where mechanical equipment can’t be used, materials and tasks should be assessed for safety prior to completion. If material is excessively heavy or awkward, a helper should be engaged to complete the task. If a worker has a history of back injury or chronic pain, the worker should engage a helper to move material or complete tasks.
