Madison Historical Society COVID-19 Stories

It had been over 100 years since the world experienced a pandemic on the scale of COVID-19.

Not since the 1918 pandemic of Spanish Influenza (where 500 million people, one-third of the world’s population, became infected), had a deadly virus so affected the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has seen 767 million confirmed cases, one-and-a-half times that of the Spanish Flu.

In March of 2020, the world temporarily closed its doors.  Businesses and schools closed; only essential goods and services were available – and not all of the time (remember the TP shortage??).  Employees and kids alike learned to work remotely.  Over time, the world began throwing open the doors and windows, but life as we know it has changed permanently in many ways.

The Madison Historical Society is inviting people to share some of their thoughts and experiences of this strangest of times.

Some thoughts to inspire your story:

  • What challenges did you face, whether working and schooling remotely in a full house, working out in the public, limiting time with at-risk friends and family, or obtaining basic goods/services?
  • How did your day-to-day life change within your home?
  • What was “a day in the life” like?
  • What positives do you take away from this experience, whether the unexpected time home with family or lessons learned?
  • What will you remember most about life in the COVID-19 pandemic?
  • What do you miss about the pre-pandemic days?

The Madison Historical Society thanks you for your participation and sharing your experiences.
