JANUARY 8th-11th 2023 - Ngati Manawa Marae, Panguru, Hokianga, NZ
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the marae based noho is to provide an opportunity for up to 50 Te Rarawa Taitamariki who are in secondary school (Yr 9-Yr13) who have an interested in science, environmental education, maths, technology with a kaupapa Maori lens.
We hope to acquaint them with a number of environmental initiatives that the iwi is promoting, lift their understanding of kaitiakitanga, and show them how they might be able to contribute to their iwi and hapu in the future. We are hoping to increase the number of our young people pursuing careers in the sciences, technology and business.
The noho will include a range of outdoor hands-on learning activities
NGĀ RANGATAHI (PARTICIPANTS)
The marae based noho is aimed at Te Rarawa young people between the ages of 13-18 who have an interest in science, technology, environmental sustainability and aim to go on to University or linked careers. We want Taitamariki from Te Rarawa both from within the rohe and living in other areas to participate.
WHAT TO BRING:
Blankets
x2 Towels (shower & swimming)
Swimming gear
Change of Clothes for three days - including wet weather jacket/coat/gear
Toiletries, sunscreen etc
Hat
gumboots
comfortable walking shoes
COST:
There is no cost but it is expected that whanau will get participants to the noho in time for the powhiri at 2pm, NGATI MANAWA MARAE in Panguru. Alternatively there are three vans that will also be available which will depart at 12.30pm from the Old Pak N Sav Carpark, Kaitaia on the 8th of January for any requiring transport from Kaitaia.
They will return back from Marae 1pm on the 11th of January to the Old Pak N Sav Carpark where students can be picked up by caregivers. A Koha to the marae or home baking for the wananga would be appropriated.
