To Our Rising Sixth Grade Students and Families:

Please know that the NJMS administration and staff are committed to do their best to make the transition to middle school a smooth and great experience for our students and their families.

In preparation for the 2022-2023 school year, we would like to provide an opportunity for students to prioritize or choose what enhancement class they would prefer to take as sixth grade students. We will do our best to place students in at least two of the classes they select; however, students are not guaranteed to be placed in all of their classes due to class size limitations and other scheduling factors. If a student is placed in a class that he or she chooses, schedule changes do not take place.

Students and families are strongly encouraged to read the brief information about each course in the Enhancement Course Description Section before making their selection. Students who would like to participate in Band in middle school will need to begin as sixth graders. Band and Chorus are yearlong enhancement classes in middle school. Other enhancement classes are held for a semester, including Health and Physical Education. All students are automatically enrolled in Health and Physical Education for one semester so it is not included as one of the choices. More details will be provided to students at the beginning of the year regarding the daily schedule for enhancement classes. Students are enrolled in two enhancement classes during the fall semester and two enhancement classes during the spring semester. Students will report to one of their enhancement classes each day for approximately one hour on an A/B rotation.
