Thank you for your interest in the GISD Dual Language program. Be sure to visit our department website for an overview of our 2-Way program as well as a link to our current slide deck of program updates and campus locations.

Current families with students already participating in our Dual Language program are also required to submit an application for incoming siblings.

Please note, submission of this application does not take the place of general student registration via the Skyward platform. Please ensure you are completing this process via your home campus. You can find more information regarding requirements for student registration here.

I have visited the Dual Language website and have had the opportunity to ask questions via Google Hangout, e-mail, or phone.

I understand that native English-speaking students should begin this program as early as possible (K) and should remain in the program until fifth grade to reap the benefits of the DL program. (New enrollment for native English speakers typically closes after Kinder.)

I understand that students will be given first preference if they have a sibling already in the 2 way DL program.

I understand that a lottery will be necessary if the district bilingual office determines that the number of interested Non-ELL (native English speakers) students exceeds the available spaces.

I understand that literacy instruction will be taught in both Spanish and English.

I understand that mathematics and social studies are taught in English K-2, and science is taught in Spanish in grades K-5.

I understand that students participate in numerous activities throughout the day designed to develop social and academic bilingualism and biliteracy as well as support grade level academic content concepts.

I understand students are tested using a variety of assessments to determine growth and achievement in both English and Spanish.

I understand homework assignments may be given in English and/or Spanish in order to support their language development beyond the classroom.

If my child is accepted into the DL program, I understand I am agreeing to a long-term commitment (through fifth grade) for my child.

I am willing to work in collaboration with the school to ensure that my child is encouraged and supported at home to complete the DL program through grade 5.

I understand that transportation must be provided by the parent if the student lives outside the school's attendance zone.

I understand that I will be notified in writing by the DL coordinator for eligibility into the program. (Acceptance e-mail will be sent by June 2nd.)

I have completed the student registration process as either a new to GISD student enrolling into Kindergarten, or have expressed interest in the Dual Language program as a parent of a current PreK student.
