What is a bike bus?
A bike bus is a group ride of like-minded bicycle rider travelling on a set route, with predetermined stops, with a leader(driver), so in many ways the same as a bus would operate...just pedal powered. This concept has been in action and supporting Open Streets days for many years, and is a practical way to support the car free day, by not travelling by car. The ride is relaxed, social and at a safe commuter pace. Please look at thr routes below and find which "bus route" and "bus stop" pick up point best suits you:

1. From South Peninsula
Start at Knead Bakery, Muizenberg
Departure time: 8:30am
Bike Bus stop 1: Tokai Bootleggers Coffee shop (approximately 8:50am)
Bike Bus stop 2: Knead Bakery, Palmyra Junction (approximately 9:30am)
Returning ride group departs Woodstock at 1pm
 
2. From Tableview/Northern suburbs
Start at Total Garage, Tableview (traffic circle on Marine drive/beachfront)
Departure time: 8:00am
Bike Bus stop 1:Woodbridge Island Bridge/cycle lane intersection
Returning ride group departs Woodstock at 1pm

3. From Gugulethu/Athlone
Start at Ikwezi Community Centre (178 Steve Biko Street)
Departure time 8:00am
Bike Bus stop 1: Klipfontein Rd (Rylands) exact location TBC
Bike Bus stop 2: Klipfontein Rd (Athlone) exact location TBC
Returning ride group departs Woodstock at 1pm

What do I need in order to participate?
- You need to be over 12 years old and if under 18, accompanied by a guardian
- A functioning bicycle (with tyres at a good pressure and brakes checked)
- We encourage the use of helmets because it's the law
- Water, sunscreen, a windjacket
- A lock

Participants who are minors (under 18) must have their application to enter the ride countersigned by their parent or guardian who, by that person’s signature thereto likewise indemnifies all of the aforementioned parties to the extent, if any, to which such minor is not capable of waiving his / her rights as stipulated above by reason of minority.I grant to Open Streets the right to use my image, name, voice recording, and likeness, contained in any photograph and /or video footage taken by Open Streets at the Open Streets Bike Bus, in any marketing materials produced by or for Open Streets.
