2021 Mill River Park Stewardship Program Application
Overview:

**Due to ongoing concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic, certain aspects of this program have been altered to align with social distancing guidelines and the safety of all Park employees.**

The Mill River Stewards, our paid high school internship program, is an opportunity for young adults who live in Stamford to learn firsthand conservation practices, environmental stewardship, college and career readiness skills, and how all this connects to the ecology of Mill River Park.  Stewards will spend a majority of the summer completing various conservation and land care projects, cataloging native and invasive plant species, and partaking in environmental education workshops. They will have the opportunity to work alongside Mill River Park's professional staff and to learn how an environmental non-profit organization functions as part of the local community.

Upon successful completion of the summer program, students are invited to participate in an after-school extension of the program which will last through the first semester of the following school year. Although a commitment to the after-school portion of the program is not a requirement, it is strongly encouraged.

Details:

-Stewards will work Monday through Thursdays from 10a.m. until 3p.m. from June 21st until August 20th, 2021.  Additionally, we will take a few local field trips to sites to be determined. Anyone with major scheduling conflicts or extended absences will not be accepted into the program. After the summer is over, we will meet once a week after school from September through December.

-The program is open to all high school students in Stamford, who are at least age 15 as of the first day of work (Monday, June 21st, 2021).

-The position pays a $1,200 stipend at the end of the summer.

-There are a limited number of positions, so not all applicants will be accepted into the Stewards Program. Selections will be made on expressed and demonstrated interest in the program, as well as a commitment to being present every day.

-Applicants who complete the written application will be invited for an in-person "try-out" and interview before final selections are made for the program.

If you have any questions or comments please contact our Education Programs Manager, Trent McCann, at trent@millriverpark.org. Please note that applications must be completed by the applicant, not their parents, and that incomplete applications will not be accepted.

The application deadline is Friday, May 21, 2021.
