Co>lab Registration | Toronto 2024
Hey future co>laborator. This is gonna be a blast. Registration takes just a few minutes and then you'll need to make payment to confirm your spot. Instructions on that are at the bottom.

A few important notes before you begin:

1. Format & Requirements: Given that co>lab is a peer practice intensive rather than an instructional course, participation requires either a degree in Conference Interpreting or at least 50 conference days. If you don't quite meet these requirements, we would still love to have you along for the ride as one of our co>lab crew members. More on crew, here.

2. Refund Policy: If you can find a qualified participant to fill your spot (or we have a waiting list!), we are happy to refund your fee up to a month out. After the one-month mark, the fee is non-refundable.

That's it! Go to it.

Would you like your fellow co>lab colleagues in this session to have your contact info? *
We provide a list of participants for each session with contact info (email, phone number and languages) so that everyone can stay in touch, and who knows, work together one day? But feel free to opt out below.
May we use course photos in which you might appear in co>lab materials and social media?
We aren't the most expert of marketers, but we do try to include some fun photos in our emails and on our website. If you're okay with that, let us know below. We won't identify you by name.

Please tell us a bit about your education and/or professional experience in conference interpreting so that we can best leverage what everyone brings to the table. Here is where you can also let us know that you have either a degree in conference interpreting and/or 50 working days of experience.

Your Presentation Title for Simultaneous *
All participants are responsible for delivering a presentation at co>lab. Aim for a 20-minute presentation in your native language about a topic you know or have researched well. You can find further presentation guidance here.
Your Speech Title for Consecutive (Optional)
Not required, but should you have a speech already prepared or wish to prepare one for our consecutive rounds, we would be delighted! For this, prepare a speech up to 5 minutes long in your native language, and it can be accompanied by a visual aid such as slides, if you would like.
Discussion Topics for Co>lab Conversations
We've found that when interpreters get together, we want to interpret, but we also yearn to discuss the field at large. So we created co>lab conversations to discuss urgent topics that everyone wants to talk about but doesn't know how to begin the conversation. Past topics have included how to get more of a certain type of work, rates & contracts, elitism in conference interpreting, and tips for easier RSI, the unspoken rules of certain markets. We can make up the topics, but we thought it would be nice to hear suggestions from you! (We won't use your name, we promise.) So, what aspect of the interpreting profession would you like to discuss as a group?

Required
Acknowledgement of Full-Time Attendance Requirement *
I understand that co>lab is peer-based and thus it is essential that I am present EVERYDAY for the WHOLE DAY in order to provide speech material, feedback to my colleagues, and relay, in addition to interpreting. I agree to forgo other professional obligations and opportunities in order to be present for the whole course, except in the case of family emergency or illness.
Final Steps: You're Almost Done!
1. Jot down your speech topic so you'll have it handy when you go to prepare your powerpoint. We will need these 1 month ahead of co>lab so that your peers have time to prepare.

2. It may seem obvious, but don't forget to hit the "submit" button at the bottom of this form. You will see a message confirming your registration. An automated copy of your registration will be emailed to you with the option to edit your information, such as your speech topics, at a later date, if necessary.

3. Payment secures your spot. The co>lab fee is CAD $725 or USD $540. Please send payment via:
Canada: e-transfer (interpretequebec@gmail.com)
US: Zelle (laura@stringcan.online)
Beautiful Rest of World: Wise (laura@stringcan.online)

**REFUND POLICY** If you can find a qualified participant to fill your spot (or we have a waiting list!) we are happy to refund your fee, up to a month out. After the one-month mark, the fee is non-refundable.

4. See the co>lab website for information about getting to co>lab and where to stay.

About 1 month prior to our intensive, we will be in touch with a series of emails chock full of logistics and details. Meanwhile, start working on that presentation :) And if you have any questions, email your co>lab coordinators, Laura (laura@lauraholcomb.com) or Lauren (interpretequebec@gmail.com).

A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided.
