All University of Michigan faculty are invited to propose courses that feature UMS’s 2019-20 programs in their instructional design for our Course Development Grant program, which supports our goal of more broadly integrating the arts and arts-based learning strategies across the University curriculum.
UMS will fund 5-8 courses per semester. Faculty fellows will receive $1,000 in salary supplement and $500 in course development funds. Course development funds can be used towards:
Books and other research materials
Honoraria for guest speakers
Student ticket/admission costs to performances, museums, etc.
Transportation costs to/from arts events
Other relevant course costs with approval
Grantees will also receive curricular support from UMS Education and Community Engagement staff, as well as special consideration for interactions with UMS visiting and teaching artists (subject to artist availability).
University professors and lecturers of all ranks from all U-M schools and colleges are eligible to apply. Proposed courses should either be new or substantially revised to meaningfully incorporate one or more UMS performances into the class.
Priority consideration will be given to:
--first year courses
--courses meeting the Race & Ethnicity degree requirement
--courses incorporating one or more performance from "No Safety Net," our theatre series in January/February 2020 focusing on performances that engage with contemporary social issues.
--courses that use performance to address inclusive teaching goals
The application deadline for priority consideration for 2019/2020 is April 8; applicants will be notified of their application status by April 22. This is a competitive process and we encourage faculty to apply by the priority deadline. We will continue to accept and review additional applications on a rolling basis for Fall 2019 courses through August 1, and for Winter 2020 courses until September 20.
Priority Deadline: April 8
Final Fall 2018 Deadline: August 1
Final Winter 2019 Deadline: September 20
