Trans Rights Field Survey

The responses to this voluntary survey questionnaire will be used to inform the development of trans-led recommendations for how to litigate in defense of trans rights in the current political climate. The responses to this questionnaire will be kept confidential and will only be used to inform the development of these recommendations.

How would you define impact litigation?

What issue areas do you believe are the most pressing issues that litigation can help address for trans communities?

What claims, defenses, or arguments have we been underutilizing and should now explore or revisit? What is working well?

Given the courts, political climate, and needs and demands of trans communities, what sort of federal cases should we be avoiding, and what sort should we be bringing? What else can we do now to prepare for the next decade or two of such a conservative Supreme Court?

How can trans rights litigators work more effectively with other stakeholders, including grassroots BIPOC and disabled trans leaders, litigators working in other movements, and trans rights litigators from other countries?

How can we protect the health and safety of those doing this work, including litigants, lawyers, legal workers, policy advocates, and communications professionals—particularly those who are trans / nonbinary and BIPOC, disabled, or neurodivergent?

How can we build capacity over time for more trans litigators doing excellent work on trans issues, especially BIPOC, disabled, and neurodivergent litigators based in parts of the U.S. with especially severe attacks?

How can we bring more allies into the work of trans impact litigation and help them do excellent work?
