Learning from the Great Outdoors with Kate [SCI/SS] Term 1, 2021 - Registration
This class runs as part of the Thursday HASCA Hub Programme alongside other classes & activities.

*** THIS CLASS RUNS IN TERMS 1 AND 4 ***

When: Thursdays 11 am to 12 noon, 8 weeks commencing 18th February

Where:  HASCA Hub, YMCA North Shore, 5 Akoranga Drive, Northcote (Squash Court 2)

Who: Home educated students aged 5-13. If older students wish to attend, please contact Kate to discuss it.

What: This practical class will feed your kids’ imaginations as they learn about the natural environment, as well as learning some survival & bushcraft skills. The kids will have a BLAST while learning all about nature and important (and life-saving) skills. Activities range from basic nature/environmental/outdoor education to true survival skills. The lessons will be hands-on—making things and doing activities.

Some of the activities we might do are: make solar ovens, put up tents, build bivouacs, plant mini-gardens, make bird feeders, learn plant identification, find GPS coordinates, and so on. Kids will gain confidence and comfort in being outdoors while having a great time and staying active.

A lot of this class will take place outdoors (weather permitting).

Parents are invited to stay and help. You are especially encouraged to do so if your children are younger, but all are welcome.

Term Fees (8 weeks):
HASCA MEMBERS $64.00 per student
NON MEMBERS $69.00 per student
Fees are payable to Kate on request and prior to the start of term, thank you.

This class will be facilitated by Kate Dunn.

Other: Key Curricular Learning Area [SCI/SS] Social Studies / Sciences
