Native's Co-host Programme 2023

Hey there✨
Thank you so much for your interest in joining our very first co-host programme! Here are some useful information to know about this program:

1) What is the purpose of this program?
We've learnt and grown so much throughout our interactions with our Orang Asli communities, and we want to share this experience with you! This programme acts as a channel for the public to build a meaningful working partnership with the Orang Asli.

2) What does it take to be a co-host?
Be it a student, a working adult, or a retiree - we welcome everybody with a heart to contribute to Orang Asli communities! We just need you to:
 -  Have a mode of transportation to and fro communities. Our communities are located approximately 1-hour away from KL city, and it is important that our co-hosts are able to travel independently.
 - Enjoy interacting and facilitating conversations with others.
-  Be fluent in English and Malay.
-  Love the outdoors, don’t mind getting dirty and the occasional insect bites.
-  Be willing to go through trainings, and make engagement visits to the communities.

3) What are the key responsibilities of a co-host?
 -   Support the Native team and our communities in the execution of experiences, which currently involved treks and culinary experiences.
 -   Assist in on-site coordinations during experiences. For example, aid in guest briefings, setting up tables, welcoming guests, helping our hike guides keep time.
 -   Assist in translating between English and Malay to help bridge language barriers. Most of our communities do not understand nor speak English.
 -  Create a fun and comfortable environment for both Native guests and communities by facilitating conversations.
 -  Model what a respectful and mutually enjoyable friendship between cultures looks like to our guests.

4) When do experiences usually run, and what is the duration?
Experiences generally run on weekends(but we're looking to extend this to weekdays in the near future!). Depending on what activities are being ran on that day, the maximum duration of an experience day would usually be one morning( 830am to 130pm).

5) How long does Native expect our co-hosts to commit?
Currently, we will be working in monthly blocks. Co-hosts may expect to be called upon once a month for help in running experiences.

6) If shortlisted, what are the next steps?
Shortlisted co-hosts will go through an interview session with Native. If selected, co-hosts would go through a training/induction session and also make an engagement visit to the communities to have a better understanding of what co-hosting is like.

 - IMPORTANT NOTE -
1. Filling in this form does not guarantee placement in the programme. Native will reach out should you be shortlisted to qualify for the programme.
2. For now, co-hosting would solely be on a volunteering basis, there will not be any monetary compensation from Native.

And that’s it from us! Fill in the questions below, and we will be in touch shortly. Good luck, and hope to see you soon!
