Thank you for your interest in offering one of our doggies their furever home.
The RATS adoption process is as follows:
- Please complete our Adopter Enquiry Form providing as much detail about yourself and your home. Our dogs each have specific needs, and our aim is to perfectly match the right dog to the right home.
- Once submitted, your Adopter Enquiry Form will be reviewed within 7 days and if we feel you might be a “pawfect” match, we will invite you to meet your chosen dog at our kennels in Buntingford, Hertfordshire to start to get to know each other. More than one visit may be required depending on the dog.
- If you would like to adopt your chosen dog, we will send you a pre-adoption pack and arrange a home check. The purpose of a home check is to ensure that your chosen dog will be living in a safe and secure home.
- After your successful home check, you will then be sent an adoption agreement to sign, as well as your adoption pack.
Our adoption fees are usually £500 if your dog is 11 months old or younger, £400 if your dog is 1 to 7 years old, or £200 if your dog is 8 to 11 years old. For dogs over 12 years old, we do not charge an adoption fee, however we would be grateful for a voluntary donation.
- Once your adoption agreement has been signed and the adoption fee paid (payment can be made online by card or by bank transfer), we will arrange a convenient time for you to collect your new furry family member.
- As some of our dogs have more complex behavioural issues, we sometimes provide behaviourist support as part of our adoption process. This is a complimentary service provided by RATS and if we feel it's needed, we'll discuss it with you during your first visit to the kennels.
- We will contact you occasionally to see how you and your new furry family member are doing, however, we are contactable any time if you have questions or would like any advice.
If you are unsuccessful in being considered for the dog you are enquiring about, this doesn't mean that you cannot be considered as a potential adopter for another dog in the future. We are able to keep your details on file for six months so that you do not need to complete another form if another RATS dog catches your eye.
