Istanbul&I is a volunteer community that empowers youth to make Istanbul better for all. We engage in
while promoting capacity building and social cohesion among youth of all backgrounds. We also aim to connect foreigners in Istanbul with Turkish people and help them integrate into their community.
1. Istanbul&I members must respect one another regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, socioeconomic status, legal status, age, or mental/physical abilities. Istanbul&I does not tolerate any hate speech or discrimination.
2. Istanbul&I does not tolerate any sexual misconduct of any kind.
Volunteers and guests who encounter any discrimination or sexual misconduct of any kind are encouraged to report it to the Ethics Council (
ethics@istanbulandi.org.tr) to address the issue and help keep our community safe.
3.Internship Requirements
To ensure our community remains vibrant and dynamic, we ask for the following commitments of our interns.
4. Requirements for Interns
Intern volunteers must have a Telegram account to be a part of Istanbul&I. Intern volunteers must share their Telegram IDs with the Human Resources (HR) Team. If an intern volunteer creates a new Telegram ID, they must inform HR.
They also need to meet one of the following requirements:
Volunteer at a project at least twice a month
Be part of any management team (For example the HR Team).
Complete tasks like writing blog posts, editing photos or videos, or translation work at least once a month.
Organize or participate in arranging workshops, talks/panels, conferences, culture nights, or fundraising events like the Flea Market.
Hold office hours and complete tasks like taking the trash out, washing the dishes, making tea, or purchasing items for the office.
Participate in office clean-up.
We ask that all our volunteers, promote us on social media by sharing and liking our posts.
Our community aims to empower one another to succeed. Please help one another in Telegram and on Facebook to find work opportunities, accommodation, training and workshops, and so on by providing suggestions, resources, and consultation when possible.
Rules and Guidelines
Volunteers must abide by the following rules:
Show up to the volunteer events they sign up for.
If they must cancel, they must inform the project manager at least 24 hours before the event to allow the project manager time to find a replacement.
They must only cancel less than 24 hours before the event if they have a legitimate reason (as defined by the HR Team and Ethics Council). In this case, they are required to inform the project manager or officer of the legitimate reason and find a replacement.
If a volunteer violates rule #1 two times in a two-month period by signing up for an event and not showing up without informing anyone, they will be suspended. If a volunteer violates rule #2 or #3 for the first time, they will receive a warning from the HR Team. If the volunteer breaks another rule for the second time within a two-month period, the volunteer will be receiving the second warning. For the third time, the volunteer will be suspended from Istanbul&I and removed from the Telegram and Facebook groups.
