D13 OSSTF: Bird Watching Event - Registration
Date: April 27th, 10am – 12pm
Location: Thickson's Woods
Description from our host: We will begin at Thickson's Woods. There is parking on the street as well as a small parking lot a little further down the street on the west side for access to the waterfront trail. Bring binoculars and if anyone has questions on how to properly set them up we can do that as well. We will walk and talk about the area and the importance of this Carolinian habitat during migration and the rest of the year. I will bring some bird seed and hopefully we will have some willing volunteers from the local Chickadee family. However, they will be working on setting up their breeding territory which is a great discussion in itself that we will have during the hike. Ecology of birds will be discussed and the effects of climate change on birds and human impacts on birds. Migration will be the focus of discussions and we will hopefully be able to see a number of migratory bird species returning for the breeding season. Vocalizations will also be a key topic as this is how territories are determined among different songbirds. I look forward to getting out into nature and having meaningful discussions with fellow colleagues.
Please dress for the weather and bring binoculars.
