Starting and building a business is always a rocky road. But what are the experiences of founders who founded a company from scratch in emerging markets, in smaller or absent startup ecosystems, with less legal certainty and a lack of government support and infrastructure? The Emerging Markets Club kicks off the semester by inviting three founders who have managed to successfully overcome these challenges and build promising ventures in Africa and Latin America in one of the most relevant markets of the next decade: Digital Health / Health-Tech. Clearly, health startups have gained momentum around the world further accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond Covid, what are their growth trajectories in emerging markets?
We are pleased to announce as our speakers:
š Immo Oliver Paul has been active since 2008 as a serial entrepreneur in Brazil, where he (co-)founded several ventures with a focus on wellness and health consumer products. He is the founder and CEO of Carenet Longevity, the largest digital health data integrator in Latin America, which is based on exponential technologies such as IoMT, Big Data and Machine Learning. Before moving to Latin America, Immo worked in strategy consulting for American and European management consulting companies. Speaking at the EMC means "coming home" for Immo, as he holds both Bachelor and Master degrees from HSG.
š Sedric Degbo is the founder and CEO of REMA. The fast-growing health-tech venture follows the vision of lowering the number of medical errors by providing a platform that facilitates the exchange of knowledge between medical professionals. Coming from a general practitioner background, he won the Seedstars pitch competition in 2018 and since then expanded his venture throughout large parts of Africa, building the continentās largest medical community.
š BrĆ”ulio Bonoto is a Brazilian entrepreneur and the co-founder and executive director of Psyalive in Latin America. The Brazilian health-tech venture aims to help people achieve better mental balance by providing an online platform that facilitates access to psychologists through security-certified encrypted videoconferencing technology and facial biometrics systems. Next to Psyalive, he co-founded two other startups and holds a Masterās degree in Public Health.
