Trail Wizard Application 2024
Please completely fill out this application to apply as a Trail Wizard for the 2024 Camp Season. Applications must be filled out by the applicant.

What is a Trail Wizard?

Trail Wizards are the counselors at Forest Magic Camp. (www.Forestmagic.org for more info)

Each Jr. or Sr. Wizard will be in charge of a small family group of 4 - 6 campers, ages 7 - 12, along with a Wizard in Training who will be 13-15 years old.

They will lead their group during daily chores, and make sure all of the campers in their group are getting the support they need to connect with each other and with camp.

Each Trail Wizard will also help their group lead one journal session for the rest of camp each week. They will serve as role models in order to help staff to set a positive tone and encourage campers to challenge themselves in various ways while they enjoy the outdoors and connect with fellow campers.

During free time, each wizard will be available and active in engaging campers in crafts, outdoor adventures or games when needed. Campers are free to choose activities and we encourage them to do so independently, but Wizards are the cheerleaders and inspiration when campers need it.

Trail Wizards will report each weekday morning in July at 8:10 to help get organized for the day and greet campers. They will finish up packing up materials and be ready to go home at 3:30 PM after all campers have been picked up. On the 4th of July Wizards will come help with the parade float and be in the parade since there is no camp that day.

Wizards will also participate in an overnight Trail Wizard Retreat, camp set-up and training on Saturday June 29 starting at 10 AM through Sunday, June 30 at noon.

Forest Magic Trail Wizards will earn stipends for educational and recreational use for their service.

Wizards in training, ages 13-14, will earn a stipend of $200 for the month
Jr Wizards, Ages 16-17, will earn a stipend of $1600 for the month
Sr. Trail Wizards, Ages 18 and up, will earn a stipend of $2000 for the month

Why do you want to be a Trail Wizard? *
Every camp day involves a 2 hour hiking adventure, several hours of free time and side quests, journaling time, and chores. During free time all campers get to choose their own adventure with access to crafts and outdoor gear as well as the forest at large.

Please describe at least two crafts, games, science experiments or outdoor activities that you would be interested in leading for interested campers.
*
What materials would you need to make each of the activities you described above happen?  *
About how much time would each of these activities take with campers?  *
You will be helping to lead one journaling experience each week along with your small family group of campers.

The idea for these sessions is that your group will pick a theme and then inspire the group using a song or story or skit that has something to do with that theme to help them think of what they might write and draw in their journals. For example you might choose friendship  as a theme. You would work with your group to think of an experience that would help the campers to write and draw about friendship.

Please name several possible themes that might appeal to the campers here:
*
Choose one of the themes you mentioned in the last question. Think of a song, story, or activity that your group could share with the campers that could inspire them to write about that theme. *
What would you like to learn more about during this summer's camp sessions? *
Considering all of the things you know or have just read about camp, what are you confident that you will be able to do very well already? *
Have you ever worked with children before? Please tell us about it. *
What experiences have you had in the outdoors / camping / hiking? *
Are you First Aid certified? *
Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself? *
A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided.
