DEFINITIONS
Social Media: The term that is applied broadly to computer-generated communication such as blogs, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snap Chat etc.
Member: All categories of membership defined as: Individuals engaged in activities with local leagues, including, but not limited to Athletes, Coaches, Parents, Officials (Including STOS Umpires and Carded Umpires), Volunteers, and Executives.
Executive: The group appointed by the STOS Organization to oversee membership, management and administration of complaints.
STOS: The St. Thomas Optimist Softball Organization.
PREAMBLE
STOS is aware that member interaction and communication occurs frequently via social media. STOS cautions its members regarding the standard of behaviour when using social media. Every nonconformance to the Social Media Policy will be investigated and could result in disciplinary action, including possible immediate and full suspension. APPLICATIONS
1. This policy applies to all "Members" as defined in the "Definitions".
2. The creation of, contributing towards, and/or posting of disrespectful, hateful, insulting or otherwise negative or inappropriate commentary on any social media forum that is directed towards "Members" or other persons connected with STOS will not be tolerated.
3. The creation of, contributing towards, and/or posting of a picture, altered picture or video on any social media forum that is harmful, disrespectful, insulting or otherwise offensive which is directed towards "Members" associated with STOS will not be tolerated.
4. Any instance of cyber-bullying or cyber-harassment which is directed towards a "Member" or Members" associated with STOS which is determined to be insulting, negative, threatening or of other Harmful content will not be tolerated.
5. "Members" must be aware that their Social Media use may be monitored by STOS. When using social media, a "Member" must model appropriate behaviour which benefits the "Member's" status and that of the STOS Organization.
6. As per the STOS's policy, relating to "Member" conduct, any social media misconduct will be considered a major infraction and will be addressed vigorously.
7. Removing content from any social media forum after its posting (publicly or privately) does not excuse a "Member" from being subject to STOS's Social Media Policy.
8. A "Member" who believes that social media usage by another "Member" is inappropriate should report the matter to the STOS Executive Member for its review.
