You are Lily, an 18 year old girl ready to start studying Journalism at the University of Amsterdam. You have always loved reading books, searching about the universe, and building your knowledge around things that are happening in your own country and the whole world. You decide to leave Rotterdam and move to another city for your studies. You have been integrating well into your new life, you have managed to find friends and you have even joined your university’s journalism society and the local dance team. However, you have been struggling with information retention and memory development since you were a child. Your parents both worked so they weren’t able to dedicate as much time to helping you with your difficulties as you would have liked.  This evening, you receive an advertisement from your university’s journalism society about a part-time job at a local newspaper where you live. You start reading the description and you realise that they request a memory assessment as a part of your application. Your first thought is: ‘I'm just not good at taking tests’.Surely, they don’t know about your difficulties, but you want to try it out.
Determined to develop metacognition
You wake up the following day with the same thought, the job. You realise that your passion for studying Journalism will help you motivate yourself and therefore, your own difficulties will not stop you from applying to this position. You want to ask for help from your new friends, but your friends are not aware of your struggles. So, you decide to send an email to one of your professors from your university to ask for advice. You are dedicated to getting the job, so firstly your aim is to learn various steps that can boost your short and long-term memory. Therefore, to improve knowledge retention and introduce more skills into your life.
