Remember:
Piano – Students must have a minimum of 2 years of private study on piano and must still currently be studying piano. Students should feel confident with scales and chords centering around the following keys: BbMA7,Bb7, Eb, F7, Bbmi7, and Cmi7; with the ability to expand from these.

Bass – Students interested in learning Electric Bass for Jazz Band must sign up for an additional Summer Lesson time for Bass. Students must also study bass with a private instructor. A limited number of instruments are available for rent through the school.

Guitar – Students interested in playing guitar in Jazz Band must have a minimum of 2 years of private study and must own their own electric guitar. Students should feel confident with scales and chords centering around the following keys: BbMA7,Bb7, Eb, F7sus4, Bbmi7, and Cmi7; with the ability to expand from these.

Tenor Saxophone/Bari Saxophone is a choice for current saxophone and possibly advanced flute/clarinet players. A
limited number of these instruments are available through the school for rent. If interested, please communicate with Mr. Sibbel.

Do Not sign up for an instrument that you do not own and don’t know how to play. For example, a trumpet player should not sign up to play saxophone because they think it would be cool to learn to play the saxophone. If you plan on playing a secondary instrument in Jazz Band, please communicate with Mr. Sibbel.

Learning Jazz stretches students’ playing ability, technique, rhythm, and creativity. Like all new learning, it takes time and commitment. Students who are successful in Jazz Band are the students who love band and want to do it every day! This is the Bobcat schedule of a 6th grade Jazz Band student:

Monday – 6th Band
Tuesday – Jazz Band
Wednesday – 6th Band
Thursday – 6th Band
Friday – Jazz Band.
