Spring 2020 Student Recommendation to DC Reading Clinic
The DC Reading Clinic is a clinical practicum that serves two missions: (1) training teachers in decoding intervention and (2) providing free intervention sessions to students after school.

If you have a K-2 student who is struggling to decode after months of instruction, and they have a parent able to commit to the 20 after-school sessions, they may be a good fit. Sessions are located at Emery PD Center (1720 First Street, NE) or Turner Elementary School (3264 Stanton Rd, SE). Parents choose their preferred location.

Ideal candidates will be in Kindergarten, First Grade, or Second Grade in Spring 2020 and struggle to:
- Hear or "break apart" the sounds within words
- Recall the entire alphabet
- Name letters
- Form or recall the sounds that letters make
- Read CVC words and texts fluently

In the first section after you enter your email, you'll describe your concerns for the student. The next section will collect parent/guardian information for the child. Once the entire form is submitted, the parent/guardian will be emailed a short form to fill out.  He/she has ten days from receipt to complete the form. Please make sure the parent knows you have recommended their child, and that there is an application process for each child.

Teacher and parent interviews take place via phone for select candidates before decisions are made in early to mid December.
