APRIL 29-30 PRESENTATION
IDEATION
During this introductory week, ideas and bodies converge. Through conversation and improvisation the silhouettes of chimeric creations begin to emerge. Each morning participants will be invited to begin with a movement-based activity followed by a working period in the afternoon and a closing group critique in the evening. Throughout weeks one and two, a resident artistic advisor will regularly circulate the working spaces facilitating conversation and providing feedback where needed. By the closing of this week the site, scale, duration, artists, and technical needs for the work will be determined, providing the skeleton for the week to come.
PRODUCTION
This is the week that projects will be concretized. Site-specific works may begin to develop in situ, performance scripts drafted, sounds, movements, and images will be composed. Contributors to Embodied Interventions are invited to participate in a series of workshops facilitated by new media and performance-based artists Emilie Morin and Ryan Clayton as part of their exhibition Le spectre anime nos os/ The spectre animates our bones at the FOFA Gallery which focus on combining virtual and physical worlds through movement.
PRESENTATION
Over this weekend the work developed over the prior two weeks will be shared in a public showcase.
INSTRUCTIONS:We are proposing two roles within Embodied Interventions:
1) COLLABORATOR: put your approach in dialogue with others to explore and create new work together. Collaborating participants will be matched in groups based on interest for the ideation and production laboratories.
2) SHOWCASER: bring a performance, talk or other presentation that is already developed. Showcasing participants will join the production week to finalize their work, and for the public presentations.
You can propose ways of working and collaborating, an approach, projects that are just a wisp of an idea, or fully fledged and itching to reach a public. They can be integrated with your thesis work or parallel passions. You can also be more than one group/project, but we will limit cross-over between groups for scheduling simplicity.
YOUR RESPONSES TO THE QUESTIONS BELOW will are the first step to participating in this incredible whirlwind of a creative residency and public presentations! To participate in this call, please fill out this form by MARCH 20, 2023.
If you wish to propose an unusual format (in duration, space, participatory nature), or include any images or further documentation related to your project (very optional), please write or send relevant materials to
leparc.milieux@gmail.com.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:
OUR HOPE is to come together and share our approaches to performance by putting them in conversation with one another. Above all, this is intended as a venue for experimentation so you are encouraged to share your artistic interests and approach whether or not you have a specific project in mind. We are looking to assemble around 8 groups with variable numbers of collaborators, including about two finished or near-finished works from showcasers. We are structuring time and space for works across disciplines that come together entirely in the studio, that are in-the-making, as well as for talks, presentations or screenings. LePARC graduate student members are prioritized, but others are welcome to apply as well.
Not sure if your intention fits? Come talk to us at the LePARC Lunch March 7th, between 12-2pm at the LePARC Commons (EV 10.765).
FINALLY:
EI 2023 is being organized by four members of LE PARC community. We are Margaret Lapp, Eija Loponen-Stephenson (co-curation), Alastair Cavanagh (technical coordination), and Lucy Fandel (LeP coordinator). Please be in touch with any thoughts or questions. We're looking forward to hearing from you!
