Come step your pen and melody game up! Here, you will explore techniques from some of your favorite artists, discover new styles of writing, and witness/join in the occasional post-class cypher. All participants will have to opportunity to record your creation throughout the course of the series. Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, Spoken Word, all genres welcome!

REPORTING LIVE (Thursdays, April 11th – June 6th @ 4:30-6:30pm)

This workshop is all about creating new work based on/inspired by the news. We will cover various forms of poetry and news outlets, narrow our focus into specific topics (ex. police brutality, relations in the Middle East, Environmental racism, even celebrity relationships). Students will create a small series of poems and learn how to self-publish their work! This workshop serves the need for urgency in our writing and allows us to be journalists as we digest the stories of the world in our skin and in our words.
