The Language Event Melbourne 1-2 August 2020 Proposals
CALL FOR PAPERS

We will have three separate tracks for papers and presentations, celebrating The Languages of Australia and its cultures as well as presentations on how to study and work with languages and some other language-related topics:

I. The Languages of Australia

II. Languages for Study and Work

III. Other Language-related Topics

Track I. The Languages of Australia

In this track, we would like to celebrate the host country its languages, dialects and cultures. You could explore topics ranging from historic, classical topics related to Australias Indigenous communities or arrivals from other countries over the last few centuries.

If you have a paper that you passionately feel comes under this topic please submit it here.

Track II. Languages for Study and Work

In this track, we would like to hear about language learning techniques and ways to use languages for work. We would prioritise less traditional roles, using languages for this and methods that are not a big sell for products for personal gain. We're looking for inventive and creative presentations to dazzle, excite and motivate.

If you have a paper that you passionately feel comes under this topic please submit it here.

Track III: Other Language-related Topics

We would like to keep some space available to people with genuinely interesting topics that do not fit the overall themes so easily. You may feel free to submit something you feel strongly about, or something you feel will be of interest to our live audience in Melbourne or indeed to the wider audience upon video release on the Internet.

DEADLINE

Preliminary deadline: We will accept proposals from now until 15th March 2020, at which point we will make our selection from among the submissions. If slots remain open after that date, we will continue to accept proposals until we have a full programme.

RECORDING AND PUBLICATION

Publication: All presentations may be entirely or partly recorded and the videos could be put on our social media channels. Photographs will also be taken during the time of the event also, which will appear on our social media channels too. If you apply to talk at the event, you agree to the publication and distribution of these images and videos by The Language Event Melbourne on their official and affiliated channels.

PRESENTATION LANGUAGE AND LENGTH

You can present in the language of your choice. There are options available on the form above to let us know, which language you would like to use. We strongly encourage languages other than English for the presentations. All presentations will have a time slot of 50 minutes each, including questions.
