A “pitch” is a 100-300 word idea for an article you would like to write. In the pitch, explain what you plan to write about, including some topics or information that you would like to include in your piece. We nearly always select pitches that are centered around a strong argument. Each issue, we feature articles about the US, World, and a "special feature." In this issue, we'll have three different special feature topics.
The Special Feature Topic for this issue is Protection.
Protection pervades all aspects of our lives. Throughout this year, health officials have been urging us to protect ourselves and our communities from COVID-19. Yet protection goes far beyond just the pandemic—this August, the world watched as Afghan families fought for their safety and rights. Over the summer, wildfires, hurricanes, flooding, and heat waves wreaked havoc across the world, amplifying the need to protect our planet. From abortion rights to mask mandates to gun laws, political polarization in the United States has made issues of protection more acute: What happens when the protection of one person’s values conflicts with another’s right to choose? In this issue of BPR, we invite you to share what “protection” means to you and how it can inspire change. We look forward to reading your pitches!
