Advanced Academic Courses
Advanced Academics includes courses, programs, assessments, services and supports that provide opportunities for students to demonstrate college and career readiness. Galveston ISD recognizes the value of student access to learning opportunities that strengthen college and career readiness. Students who participate in advanced academic coursework are on the pathway to building a foundation for future success. Advanced Academic courses challenge students beyond grade-level academic courses and prepare them for success in future advanced coursework. Gifted / Talented students are served by these courses as required under Texas Education Code §29.121.

Because of the district’s commitment to the State of Texas Strategic Priority Number Three:  Connect High School to Career and College, Galveston ISD encourages all students to experience at least one advanced academic course during middle school to have a full understanding of the rigor required to be college ready. Families who feel their child may benefit from the experience are encouraged to meet with the counselor to discuss the best-fit option for their child.
