PARADE GUIDELINES ___________________________________________________________________________________

Please adhere to the guidelines below to ensure the parade is a memorable and safe experience for all to enjoy.
While it may look a little different this year, our first post-COVID parade, we expect the friendly residents of Cumberland County to follow public health guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety. Safety plans include extending the parade route so that there is more room for physical distancing between spectators and reducing close contact by not permitting handouts of candy or promotional materials nor collection of any item(s) along the route.

* The Parade Marshalls are the official on-site authorities. The Parade Marshalls reserve the right to screen all entries and, if necessary, remove unacceptable entries.

* All drivers must be licensed, willing to accept responsibility for the safety and conduct of their passengers. Drivers should drive at a steady speed, maintaining a 25-30 foot interval between surrounding entries, and not exceed 5 km per hour during the route. Drivers should be particularly careful when turning, stopping, or starting to avoid injuring their passengers and or spectators. During the parade route, please keep a safe space of 30 feet behind the entry in front of you to ensure the procession moves smoothly.

* Any child under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate in the parade.

*  Throwing or handing out candy and/or promotional materials and/or collecting items along the route is prohibited.

* There will be no solicitation for cash, donations and/or ticket sales along the parade route.

* All entries must have the name of the company/organization prominently displayed at the front or sides for both spectators and judging.

* All entries must be safe for passengers and spectators. Please ensure that all items are well secured.

* No one may get on or off a float once the parade has started. Passengers on a float or vehicle must remain seated at all times during the parade. There will be no dangling of legs over the side or sitting on the edge of a float or vehicle. Passengers should be able to hold onto something substantial to protect them from sudden acceleration, stopping or turning corners.

* Each entrant, regardless of type, must designate at least one person of mature judgment to be their Safety Officer. The driver may not be designated as the Safety Officer, although the driver is ultimately responsible for the safety and conduct of the passengers. The Safety Officer ensures children are never left alone or unsupervised, that spectators stay clear of their parade entry and the participants are safely on-board at all times.

* All generators must be fully fueled prior to arrival at the set-up area to ensure there is no need for refueling along the parade route.

* All electrical devices must meet safety standards and electrical output must not exceed the maximum amperage of the generator.

* All floats must carry a fire extinguisher and a minimum of two handheld flashlights.

* Smoking is not permitted in the set-up area or on floats during the parade.

* All entrants should be fully decorated and make use of festive lighting and music in keeping with the parade theme.

* Animals (horses, dogs, etc.) are permitted. However, if they are walking, entrants are required to take care of clean up as necessary along the route. Animals must be leashed or bridled at all times.

* All entrants must be able to provide proof of liability insurance.

* NO float shall have a person representing Mrs. Claus or Santa Claus in costume.
