Writing Research and Personal Statements in the Humanities and Social Sciences
Fellowships and grants are vital to a successful academic career. It is never too early or too late to learn how to narrativize your work and craft effective personal and research statements to secure financial support for your research.
This fellowship and grant writing series will take place over two sessions. In the Writing Personal Statements workshop, we will cover the essential elements of a personal statement, evaluate successful personal statements from a variety of applications, and discuss how to hone the narrative and style of your personal statement.
In the Writing Research Statements workshop, we outline the differences between research proposals and research statements and how best to approach writing both kinds of documents. We discuss how to narrativize your research in a clear and compelling way for a general audience and evaluate examples of research proposals and statements.
We encourage you to attend both sessions of the series, but you are also welcome to sign up for only one session.
