UNSPACES: Anthropic [Concrete] Rocks tests a new way of navigating public space, redirecting attention to interstitial and quietly present remnants of development, maintenance and urban degradation. Through collection, interaction and intervention, the Anthropic [Concrete] Rock becomes a cultural artefact of the anthropocene. Shaped by the systems and behaviours performed by the public, concrete rocks become a new, everyday part of our geologies.
THE TOUR is an act of exchange with the city through conversation, participation and shared collection of concrete rocks. It aims to activate a renewed awareness of the everyday landscape as a layering of colonial material and ideas, and their potentials. The collected rocks will be shared as a temporary intervention at Platform Arts and around the Geelong CBD, before exhibition at Third Space Gallery.
